Ruffled Up!

Monday, March 1, 2010

Hey Dolls! Ruffles are totally in ... AGAIN!

With many designers incorporating ruffles into their runway looks, it’s safe to say this fun and flirty trend is still “haute” this spring season.

With so many trends out there, ruffles have been a fashion staple for a while now. The look of ruffles this spring include lose, flowing ruffles, that create a soft romantic look, and tight, tiered ruffles, that make a bold statement when added to any outfit.

Ruffles are showing up on everything from skirts to shirts, sweaters to shoes, this trend is definitely one to try. It adds a spark of femininity while having a flirty edge to any outfit.

At the 2010 Golden Globes, many celebrity icons, including Heidi Klum and Zoe Saldana, wore this trend, which increased the popularity.

Tiered dresses and ruffled skirts are great choices for this spring and summer season. Whether it’s a short tiered tube dress or a denim ruffled skirt. These pieces will give you that fashionista edge. Pair a ruffled skirt with a form fitting top, cute belt, bangles and wedges and you will look super cute while staying stylish. Add a military shirt into the mix, and your style just jumped up another notch.

Designers like Chloé, used ruffles to create a bohemian chic look while Marc Jacobs used an abundance of ruffles to add that va va voom to nearly half of his spring collection.

This oh-so-hot trend works with almost any look and it can be really forgiving if worn right. * Be careful though, because ruffles do add volume, so make sure it’s a flattering fit. Since they tend to flow outwards, this trend can sometimes make you look bigger than you are.

Some pieces that have ruffles include:

Shirts

Cardigans

Dresses

Skirts

Shoes

Purses

With big to small ruffles, flowing to tight, this trend has taken over. Whatever your style is, ruffles can fit into your wardrobe. This trend gives you the look of sweet seduction.

Remember, fashion is fun. It is uniquely you!

Every fall and winter new jean trends hit the runways. Take a look at this years hottest trends….

Ladies these trends will make you look fashionable this fall:

Skinny jeans are the biggest trend for this fall. With the eighties being a huge contributor to this season’s fashion, skinny jeans are in style for both women and men. They have been around for a few seasons, but this fall they are the must have item. Skinny jeans can look great on every body type, just make sure they sit right on your hips. This look is easy to dress up or down. Add heels and accessories to make a sexy going out look or a pair of ballet flats or boots for a cute daytime look.

Boyfriend jeans have been increasingly popular this year with different fits and looks. Find a pair that fits through the waist and hips but is looser in the leg. Look for a straight leg. Boot cut or flare leg jeans tend to just look wrong with this trend, especially if you are cuffing the bottom of the jean. Try to find a distressed pair. Add a sexy basic tee or cute cardigan and you have a great everyday look.

Boot cut jeans are an old classic that is always a great staple to have in your closet. This basic jean can be dressed up or down. Look for stitching details or unique pockets to spice up an old classic.

Trouser Jeans are stylish and dressy. They are the perfect pair of jeans when you want to look dressy but not overly done. They have that classy look that makes a person look well put together.

“Jeggings” or Jean leggings have also become popular this fall. They are a slimmer take on the skinny jean and go along with the eighties inspired trends. Pair them with a long tee or sweater dress and boots to create a super cute look.

No matter what style of jean you are going for, distressed denim is a must have. From shredded to ripped the look is popular. The trend has been popular for the last few seasons but this fall it is bigger than ever. If you don’t want to spend the extra dollars on the ripped jeans do it yourself. There are many websites that offer tips.

Bleached, dark denim and gray jeans are also on the rise. Gray has been an increasingly big color this fall so try on a pair the next time you are shopping.

For the guys out there these trends will have you looking stylish.

Slim fit jeans are a big trend this fall for men. Going along with the eighties inspired fashions this fall slim jeans are the “it” jean for guys. You want to have a more of a straight let for this look. Add a slim fitting shirt to compliment the jeans. Many stores are including either slim or extra slim fits for that rock and roll look.

Boot cut is a staple for men. Every guy should have at least one pair. It’s a flattering style for both men and women and goes great with almost every shoe. The jean should sit low on the waist and be slim through the thigh, then slightly widen at the knee. Pair this style with a graphic tee or a military style shirt (another popular fall trend) and you have a great everyday look.
