Haute Hues

Monday, October 18, 2010

By Jody Marich

Camel, rich purples, saturated fall colors and olive tones all fall into this season's hot color scheme.
With the burst of  military in the fashion world, more earth tones are showing up....

Camel: the new neutral: If you haven't loaded up on this fabulous hue, now is the time. Camel, is the "IT" color this fall. It can match just about any color you want to put with it. From browns to blacks, purples to blues, camel is a friend to every hue.

Designers like Chloé, Alexander Wang, and Michael Kors are crazy about camel.

Anything from purses, to shoes, coats to pants are showing up in camel. Choose one versatile piece and pair it with other trends of the season.
**Layer camel and denim for a runway look or keep it simple with accessorizing in camel.

Look out for trench coats, military inspired jackets, layering pieces, leggings, and cargo style pants in these tones. Some skin tones clash with these tones so be sure to try on. Find the shade that looks good with your coloring.

The Limited
($59.90)                       ($148)

Urban Outfitters
($78)                       ($148)

Rich Purples: Eggplant, saturated purples and vibrant magenta tones are all the rage. They are dark enough for fall but still add a pop of color to drab tones.

Designers like Alice + Olivia and Betsey Johnson show the funky side of purple.

**Opaque tights in a purple tone would be a great addition to a dark winter outfit.

Forever 21
($13.50)                  ($27.80)

bebe

Gray: This neutral color is everywhere. Jeans, sweaters and outerwear are a great choice when wearing this color.  Sporting the hue in moderation can look stylish and cozy but be careful not to over do it.

Alice + Olivia and D&G had great gray pieces.

I absolutely love the gray suit by Alice + Olivia. There is something about it; It's just so chic.

Mix it up by adding some fun prints or winter knits into the gray mix.

ModCloth

Express
($79.90)                                ($69.90)

Red tones: Like purple, this color is all over runways and stores, from luscious maroons to vibrant reds, this is a must have color for fall.

Zac Posen and Anna Sui, were two of the many designers showing their love for red on the runway.

As fall SLOWLY approaches, one must wonder what is in style?

Working in retail, I am lucky enough to follow fashion closely, along with my Google alerts that pop up daily. I love following the different trends for each season.

This fall its all about the bottom, pants and jeans that is. There are so many more options for work, leisure and play. There is the jegging, or jean leggings, cigarette pants, skinny dress pants, and so on. Because there are so many different trends and styles for this fall, I thought I would put together a post about the top choices.

First and foremost, skinny is in..... pants that is. Skinny jeans have become a staple BUT this year skinny pants are a great option for work which allows for a very sleek look yet still professional. Remember with a skinny bottom you want to have more volume on top so you can balance out.

Skinny jeans are everywhere from straight leg to ultra skinny, it just depends on what style and look you are going for.
** If you want to try a more daring style, go with jeggings. This is a great way to show off those fabulous legs of yours. You can also try a skinny leg pant in a stretchy material for a great night out look.

Great top choices to pair with include:
Dolman tops
Shark bite tees
Oversized tees
Banded bottom tops
Ruffled tops
Layering pieces like flyaway cardigans, boyfriend jackets or military jackets
Just to name a few....

Military and cargo influences are huge this fall. Look for pants with details, including zippers, and extra pockets. Also try to find work pants in army green or navy to spice up your work wardrobe and be fashion forward.
(Express)

Hardware, washes and details oh my! Everything from Acid wash jeans to studded designs/ details accent fall bottoms. From pants to jeans, more washes, colors and details are being offered to spice up your look. Be brave and try it all at once. These jeans from Express are the prefect example.
You could also try a pair of dress pants in herringbone or houndstooth with buckle details, like these on the left. There are also more edgy dress pants with studded details to let the inner rocker shine, while still keeping it classy for work.

When it comes to what washes to wear for jeans , faded grey or black is a great choice along with dark denim. These jeans from Gap are perfect examples of washes and fits to try.

Whether you want a subtle fashion forward look or an outright fashion statement, pants and jean this fall give you plenty of options. Glam rock, military and different materials allow for hundreds of choices to choose from. It's all up to you and how you want to wear them.

Remember, fashion is fun. It is uniquely you.

Rocker Chic: a sneak peak of fall 2010

"I LOVE ROCK & ROLL"

The Runaways, starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning inspired designers all over. With the release of the movie, Joan Jett's style has become iconic.

Working in retail, as a Fashion Expert at Express, I often see trends spiked by movies. This fall it's all about the rocker chick. Last fall had a similar vibe but this upcoming season you will see lots of lace, ultra skinny jeans or jeggings (jean leggings), leather, motorcycle trends, grunge details and military looks.

(Photo: Polyvore)

Colors include earth tones, dark hues, metallics and blacks.

At Express, we have everything from motorcycle leggings and jeans, to studded tees and pants. The grunge detail is also added to jackets

with removable pins and broaches for that pinch of edginess.

But on to what you really want to know, how to pull off the Joan Jett look.

1. My first suggestion is ultra skinny jeans or jeggings. This now staple piece will pull the whole look together. Choose a dark, weathered wash or a grey, could be acid washed or ripped pair.

2. Once you have the bottom, work your way up by choosing a rock and roll inspired top. Something with lace or cutout detail is best in black or dark hues.

3. Next accessorize. Belts are always a great way to spice things up. Choose one with studded detail or some type of metal hardware and you're one step closer to bringing out your inner rocker chick. Find jewelry that has the same detail, chains, studs, and metal embellishment is key. You could also grab a neckerchief with a fierce print on it.

4. Dress up the eyes with heavy eyeliner and mascara along with lipstick, not gloss.

5. Throw on a leather jacket and some black boots and there you have it: the new rock and roll inspired you.

Don't forget the attitude.
