Monday, October 25, 2010

Halloween is a week away and many are scrambling to find a costume. Here are six cute costume ideas inspired by fashion.

1. Twiggy - the world's first supermodel.
Pieces you will need:
Vans, American Apparel, Forever 21, MAC

2. Where's Wanda - the cute gf of Where's Waldo has a fun street style. With these pieces you will look just as cute and be able to use the pieces over and over again.
Forever 21, Swell, Target, Modcloth.

3. Strawberry Shortcake- become the cute little dolls that we used to play with as kids.
Hot topic, Spirit Halloween, DSW, Ulta, Asos, Modcloth.
You can use streeker temporary hair color or grab a wig to achieve the red locks. I opted for the streeker because it's more inexpensive.

4. Meow- Cats are a staple for Halloween costumes. This is an easy way to look like the sexy feline you are.
American Apparel, Spirit Halloween, DSW, Ulta, MAC.

5. Lady Gaga- the fashion forward singer is all the rage this Halloween. Here is one of her many looks.
Forever 21, DSW, Urban Outfitters, Spirit Halloween.
If you want to up the ante, create your own Gaga rhinestone sunglasses like I did. It's cheap and easy.

6. The Mad Hatter- this favorite of Alice in Wonderland is an easy choice. Put together mixed matched pieces with a pea coat, tights and booties. Find accessories that have to do with watches, hats, tea cups and rabbits.
Forever 21, Modcloth, Disney Store, Spirit Halloween.
Don't forget the colored hair spray, white face make-up and mystical smile.

Hope these ideas help. Happy Hauntings X

By Jody Marich

Camel, rich purples, saturated fall colors and olive tones all fall into this season's hot color scheme.
With the burst of  military in the fashion world, more earth tones are showing up....

Camel: the new neutral: If you haven't loaded up on this fabulous hue, now is the time. Camel, is the "IT" color this fall. It can match just about any color you want to put with it. From browns to blacks, purples to blues, camel is a friend to every hue.

Designers like Chloé, Alexander Wang, and Michael Kors are crazy about camel.

Anything from purses, to shoes, coats to pants are showing up in camel. Choose one versatile piece and pair it with other trends of the season.
**Layer camel and denim for a runway look or keep it simple with accessorizing in camel.

Look out for trench coats, military inspired jackets, layering pieces, leggings, and cargo style pants in these tones. Some skin tones clash with these tones so be sure to try on. Find the shade that looks good with your coloring.

The Limited
($59.90)                       ($148)

Urban Outfitters
($78)                       ($148)

Rich Purples: Eggplant, saturated purples and vibrant magenta tones are all the rage. They are dark enough for fall but still add a pop of color to drab tones.

Designers like Alice + Olivia and Betsey Johnson show the funky side of purple.

**Opaque tights in a purple tone would be a great addition to a dark winter outfit.

Forever 21
($13.50)                  ($27.80)

bebe

Gray: This neutral color is everywhere. Jeans, sweaters and outerwear are a great choice when wearing this color.  Sporting the hue in moderation can look stylish and cozy but be careful not to over do it.

Alice + Olivia and D&G had great gray pieces.

I absolutely love the gray suit by Alice + Olivia. There is something about it; It's just so chic.

Mix it up by adding some fun prints or winter knits into the gray mix.

ModCloth
($80)                                     ($43)

Express
($79.90)                                ($69.90)

Red tones: Like purple, this color is all over runways and stores, from luscious maroons to vibrant reds, this is a must have color for fall.

Zac Posen and Anna Sui, were two of the many designers showing their love for red on the runway.

Meow! Trend Alert: cat eye sunglasses

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

By Jody Marich

Tis the season for new shades!
As the temperatures heat up, cat eye shades are the sunnies to try! The classic 50's staple has been revamped.

With designers playing around with the (old) but new trend, this summer cat eye sunglasses are to go to shades. Designers like Alexander Wang and Prada were a few to jump on the bandwagon, using bold statement colors along with oversized, futuristic shapes.

(Alexander Wang: 325$) (Prada:225$)

The oversized version on this classic shade, gives any fashionista the retro chic look for summer. For a bold look, try a pair in statement colors, like gold, pink, or green. Tortoise is another great color to choose.

(ASOS: 16.91$) (Foever21: 5.80$)

Cat eye sunglasses are everywhere for s/s 2010. From runways to celebs, everyone is trying this look. Whether you want to spend big bucks or just a couple dollars, this accessory trend is definitely one to try this summer.

Cat eye sunnies are flattering to most. The upswept sides emphasize cheekbones and add definition to your face but make sure you try them on before you buy. You don't want to get lost behind them or have an unflattering fit.

Here are some tips to find the right pair of cat eye sunnies for you.

1. Determine your face shape- is it oval, square, diamond, heart shaped, round, or rectangular?
2. Consider you features- if you have a small face with tiny features, it will be harder to pull off big, bulky sunglasses.
3. Frames should follow your eyebrows
4. Cat eyes are more geometric so they are better suited for angular faces, but don't get discouraged, there is a right pair for everyone, just keep trying!

Details, Details, Details....

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

From dresses to shirts, shorts to jeans, embellishment and hardware on clothes are super hot this spring and summer.

Embellishment on necklines is a huge trend. Choosing a shirt with an embellished neckline allows you to accessorize other areas of your outfit instead of adding a necklace. With a detail on the neckline, you outfit will look more stylish, giving you an accessorized look.

(Forever 21: $19.90)

Spring tops are popping up everywhere that have removable necklaces, a perfect way to add accessories without having to think a lot about which one to choose. An added plus is you easily remove it when you have to wash your clothes!

This top is from ASOS.com and it has a detachable necklace... super cute!

(£35.00)

Studs, beading and rhinestones seem to be everywhere, from shoes to shirts; these accents add spice to any piece.

Studs give you that edginess while keeping up with that rocker 80’s trend that is lingering this season. You can find this hardware on anything from clutches to shoes, to a little black dress or a jacket, whatever your style is there is something studded out there for you! Start with an accessory piece, like a studded belt over a cute dress, or over sized tee and go from there.

(EXPRESS: Belt -59.50, Purse-79.50, Shirt-34.50)

Rhinestones add a glam factor to any outfit. Jewels scattered around a top spice up a normal tee.

One of my favorite looks is the boyfriend tee with an embellished breast pocket! Super cute and a great way to spice up a plain tee.

This boyfriend tee is from Express. I have 3. I have 2 that are plain which I put sequins tops under and one with a rhinestone pocket... I LOVE these tees! They are so versatile. This is one of my favorite ways to wear it, only I like to drape one side off the shoulder.

($29.50)

Sequins are a must.

With sequin details, ranging from a strip on the sleeve to a flower focal point sequins should be in your spring wardrobe.

I absoulutely LOVE this one from Mango... it has embellishment on the pocket AND the shoulder: FABULOUS!

(ASOS.com: Mango £19.90 )

The famous sequin tanks are everywhere! Put it under a boyfriend tee with some skinny jeans and you have a super cute school look.

Graphic tees are another great way to sport this trend. Tees are adding the bling effect. There are feminine v-necks with flowers made of sequins or rocker tees with a saying and studs, whatever your style there is one out there for you!

(Express 29.50)

Although the neckline is the most popular place to add embellishment, shoulders are getting a lot of attention this season. With trends bringing focus to women’s shoulders, this added detail is perfect without taking the big plunge and wearing shoulder pads or a strong shoulder piece.

Remember fashion is fun. It is uniquely you.
