Hot jacket trends to warm you up this winter

Tuesday, December 8, 2009

As temperatures drop, one thing is for sure, you should have a stylish jacket in your wardrobe. Warm yourself up by trying one of these hot new jacket trends.

Leather is the leading material for autumn and winter jackets, but this year try to find one that is “minus” the leather. This animal friendly jacket looks like the real deal but costs much less and doesn’t harm animals. If you opt for the real thing, make sure its soft, as though it is suede, that way there will be more movement to the jacket.

For both men and women, the military trend is hot for this otherwise cold season. These jackets are cut close to the body, embellished with the epaulette trim (the strap along the shoulder), rows of balanced buttons, usually having details on the buttons, and some having pockets, braiding or gold/silver details. This trend comes in many materials including leather, corduroy and denim. This trend will be continuing into spring 2010 so it is wise to invest in some great military pieces.

Motorcycle jackets are another trendy jacket for both men and women this season. This year the style of the motorcycle jacket has become more edgy as the trends overall are rock and roll inspired. Details include zippers, buckles, and studs. Leather is the most popular material for this trend but it has also shown up in knit sweaters and denim.

Denim jackets are a classic staple every winter. This year the styles are inspired by the popular military and motorcycle trends. With endless washes and details, look for a denim jacket with a slimming fit. Avoid overdoing the denim, if you pair a denim jacket with jeans choose different washes.

Strong shoulder jackets are super trendy this season. This trend is everywhere from the runways to everyday. With the 80’s trend being hot right now, this jacket is a must have. It gives the business jacket a rock and roll twist while still looking sleek and sexy. Pair it with a high-waist skirt and a chunky belt to give it another degree of edginess.

Boyfriend Blazers are another popular trend this season, as are the boyfriend jean. This season it’s all about your boyfriend’s clothes with a feminine twist. This jacket has a roomy fit while still drawing attention to feminine parts like the waist and wrists. Fold up the sleeve or push them back to give the jacket a flirty look. Paired with skinny jeans, a white tee, and stilettos you will look super stylish while staying warm.

These are some other great winter coats to look out for.

Boyfriend jeans have been increasingly popular this year with different fits and looks. Find a pair that fits through the waist and hips but is looser in the leg. Look for a straight leg. Boot cut or flare leg jeans tend to just look wrong with this trend, especially if you are cuffing the bottom of the jean. Try to find a distressed pair. Add a sexy basic tee or cute cardigan and you have a great everyday look.

Boot cut jeans are an old classic that is always a great staple to have in your closet. This basic jean can be dressed up or down. Look for stitching details or unique pockets to spice up an old classic.

No matter what style of jean you are going for, distressed denim is a must have. From shredded to ripped the look is popular. The trend has been popular for the last few seasons but this fall it is bigger than ever. If you don’t want to spend the extra dollars on the ripped jeans do it yourself. Slim fit jeans are a big trend this fall for men. Going along with the eighties inspired fashions this fall slim jeans are the “it” jean for guys. You want to have a more of a straight let for this look. Add a slim fitting shirt to compliment the jeans. Many stores are including either slim or extra slim fits for that rock and roll look.

Boot cut is a staple for men. Every guy should have at least one pair. It’s a flattering style for both men and women and goes great with almost every shoe. The jean should sit low on the waist and be slim through the thigh, then slightly widen at the knee. Pair this style with a graphic tee or a military style shirt (another popular fall trend) and you have a great everyday look.
