New policy against photoshop in advertising.

The American Medical Association adopted a new policy for body image and advertising to youth

In the annual meeting, the AMA noted that “Advertisers commonly alter photographs to enhance the appearance of models’ bodies, and such alterations can contribute to unrealistic expectations of appropriate body image – especially among impressionable children and adolescents. ” The unrealistic expectations could then lead to disorders and other health problems.

In the press release, AMA Board Member Barbara L. McAneny, MD mentioned how ads that reach out to impressionable children and teens need to stop portraying models with body types only achievable with photo editing. She pointed out one specific example. ”The appearance of advertisements with extremely altered models can create unrealistic expectations of appropriate body image. In one image, a model’s waist was slimmed so severely, her head appeared to be wider than her waist.”

The adopted policy is to encourage advertisers to work with organizations involved in child and adolescent health to create guidelines for ads, especially in teen-oriented publications. The guidelines would discourage altering photos that could promote unrealistic body image expectations.

We're in Miami, trick.

I have been super busy with work so I haven't had a lot of time for my neon and neutral BDIB assignment.

Over the weekend I went to Miami where I had one of the most amazing weekends of my life with friends I will never forget. So, I thought "why not shoot some photos in South Beach," after all, it is the place where Neon comes to die.

So without further adieu here is my weekend in Miami sporting a neon with neutral.

This is one of my oldest and dearest friends, Preeti, outside of our vibrant hotel room.

This is a group shot of the four of us. We were getting ready for a day of shopping on South Beach.

Love these ladies!

**The whole outfit is Express,  since I work there.

Hope you enjoy these funky photos. We had an amazing time and made some wonderful memories. Have a great week everyone!

Fashion Feature: Hook&Stylit

Thursday, June 9, 2011

Today's fashion feature is on a dear friend whom I met in college. Maggie always looked so chic while in class, wearing maxis, bermuda shorts, whatever it was she looked cute and classy. Now, she has her own personal style blog, Hook & Stylit: the style of my life.

Meet Maggie.

This full time fashionista always looks great. Whether it's going to work or going to the beach, Maggie knows how to dress herself and others.  She has a quote on her blog from Drew Berrymore that I think a lot of girls can relate to: "My whole life I wanted to feel comfortable in my own skin, it's like the most liberating thing in the world." Maggie's down to earth personality matches her style perfectly, showing she IS comfortable in her own skin.

Here are a few sneak peaks of outfits from Hook & Stylit.

"I LOVE wearing black and brown (and now cream) together! This outfit definitely fits my personality, my lifestyle and the office environment that I work in everyday!"- Maggie

"My absolute favorite thing in the world to wear is a MAXI dress! I'm obsessed! I wear maxis basically anytime I am not in work clothes. I'm convinced that they are the greatest alternative to pajamas that has ever been invented!"-Maggie

I 100% agree, gotta love those maxis! They're so comfortable yet oh so stylish.

I've always loved Maggie's style, and these photos are prime examples of just how stylish she is! Remember to check out Hook & Stylit for more fabulous fashion posts from this fashionista! Enjoy xx

Remember,  fashion is fun. It is uniquely you. ♥
